Mazda6 isn’t for 2022 but what about Mazda6 2023?

After three generations, the 2022 Mazda6 will not be released. After the production of the 2021 Mazda6 edition, the automaker has given up on releasing a 2022 Mazda6 after years of model decline. At least, that's what we thought. Despite the absence of the 2022 Mazda6 this year, a return for the 2023 Mazda6 edition appears to be in the works...

The 2022 Mazda6 will not exist

However, for the time being, a 2022 edition of this Mazda sedan is completely out of the question. The 2022 Mazda6 won't be riding around in the Greater Montreal area, from Laval to the South Shore. Yet, since its creation in 2002, it has been one of the best-selling sedan models during its first years on the market. In fact, it was once named best sedan in its class. However, sales have not been good in the 2010s despite its many qualities.

Although Mazda seems to be phasing out its 6 model, there are rumours that it could return in a new form. This is in line with Mazda's repositioning into higher-end models. Indeed, according to Car and Driver, the 2023 Mazda6 would benefit from a complete technical overhaul. The magazine points out that the future sedan will have a completely different design compared to the previous three generations. But what does this mean in concrete terms?

The 2023 Mazda6?

Still according to Car and Driver, the 2023 edition of the Mazda6 will be quite flashy! It could feature a body with a radically slimmed-down front end and a grille that would take up most of the latter’s space. It could also get a "4-door coupe" configuration. In short, it could show off elements of the Mazda RX-Vision Concept unveiled in 2015. This means that it would be built on a new platform created jointly with Toyota! To top it all off, a 6-cylinder Skyactiv-X engine would be the basis of its powertrain to drive with prestige in Montreal, Laval and the South Shore!
