2019 Volkswagen Jetta vs 2019 Mazda3 in Montreal
The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta and 2019 Mazda3 compact sedans, available at your Spinelli Mazda dealership, are compared side by side in this brief essay.

One is German, the other is Japanese and both belong to the category of compact sedan. The first, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta and the second is the 2019 Mazda3, that you can take for a spin at your Mazda Spinelli dealership on Montreal’s West Island, not far from Laval, where you will experience exceptional service, tempting promotional offers and flexible Mazda financing plans. This short essay will show you why the Mazda3 is a better choice than the VW Jetta.

First, let’s talk price. For a base price of almost $21,000, the 2019 Jetta costs around $3,000 more than the Mazda sedan, and that kind of money is nothing to sneeze at. Generally, you would expect to get quite a bit for that amount, but is it really worth it? Let’s see what both of them have to offer by comparing their respective entry models.

The VW features a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder turbo that provides 147 horsepower and 184 ft-lb of torque, with 6-speed manual transmission or 8-speed automatic. On the other hand, the Mazda3 delivers a 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower for a torque of 150 ft-lb, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. The Mazda’s GT trim, the beefiest of the three, offers a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and 186 ft-lb of torque, and despite its power, its fuel consumption is only 6.6 L/100 km.

To be fair, if you add the technology package to the GX, which costs $2,300, that brings it to more or less the same price as the Jetta. This package includes 16-inch alloy wheels, advanced blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, body-colour power side-mirrors with integrated turn signal, air conditioning, tri-level heated front seats and cruise control.

The Jetta doesn’t offer rear cross traffic alert or blind spot monitor. For that, you would have to choose the Highline trim, which costs a little more than $24,000. All in all, when we take SKYACTIV technology into account, for more equipment at a similar price, the 2019 Mazda3, available at Spinelli Mazda on Montreal’s West Island near Laval, is without a doubt the best choice, and even better, it has optional AWD, which is a rare feature in this category.
